Breeding pygmy goats

Pygmy goats are comparatively smaller in shape and size and they need proper attention while they are under breeding age. In fact, it should be kept in mind that the doe (female) has reached the correct age to breed with the male counterparts. 7-9 months of age is considered as the best time for the first time breeding. Also, they should be healthier and free from any physical ailments.

While breeding, the buck should be younger for they are fertile and should be energetic, too. You can either hire a buck if you don’t possess the correct match to breed or you can also opt for the artificial insemination. Apart from it, you should see that the buck is not a close relative of the doe as it may cause unwanted genetic disorders. Two or three months of age is taken as the approximate time for the buck to be fertile and is considered ready for the breeding purpose.

The most vital thing to be considered before breeding is to see and analyze the time of fertility of the doe. You should see some special symptoms and signs of fertility in the female goats like mucus excretion from the back, wagging tail and excitement in proximity with the adult bucks. Also, mounting over the objects and male goats may be sign of fertility and it shows that the doe is ready for breeding.

When the signs are clear for the breeding purpose, you may keep them in a small field and pasture land; so that they are free to breed in their own way. You may assist a little called hand breeding to keep them indulged in the act for a specified time period. This helps them in the breeding process. Since they are small in shape and size, they can be kept anywhere in even little space like close feeding or breeding quarters specially built for the process.

In fact, the autumn seasons is the best time for the breeding of pygmy goats although feeding them in a better way may be done throughout the year. The main aim should be that they are feed greener pastures and are kept in a healthier environment so that no problem occurs during breeding.
